Introduction
Liu Xiaobo has recently been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and controversies are surrounding him regarding this announcement. The Chinese Foreign Ministry released a statement saying “The Nobel Peace Prize is meant to award individuals who promote international harmony and friendship, peace and disarmament. Liu Xiaobo is a criminal who has been sentenced by Chinese judicial departments for violating Chinese law. Awarding the peace to Liu runs completely counter to the principle of the award and is also a desecration of the Peace Prize.” Liu was nominated by famous individuals for the award which included former Czech president, Vaclav Havel, the Dalai Lama, and Desmond Tutu. By evaluating Liu Xiaobo’s birth chart, we can try to unearth some of the controversies surrounding his life and how he was able to achieve such a strong support from governments and key individuals around the world.
Chart Analysis
Liu Xiaobo is a Yin Water (癸) self born in the month of the Rat (子). Although water is particularly strong in his chart, his birth system has a strong wood alliance formed between the Pig (亥) and the Goat (未). Some would consider Liu Xiaobo a strong self because of the month that he was born in. From a bigger picture standpoint, Liu Xiaobo surrenders to the output element which is the wood. Even though he was born in the month of the Rat (子), the strength of the water is contained by the Yang Earth (戊) found in the month stem. Liu Xiaobo is classified as a “從兒格”, or Follow Offspring.
Having determined the flow of wood leading his birth system, we can test his chart by evaluating what has transpired during the Rooster (酉) cycle as the Rooster (酉) would seek to destabilize the wood. Reason for such a destabilization is the fact that the Rooster (酉) contains pure metal and it is a cardinal metal symbol. The metal would chop the wood putting a stamp onto the energetic wood flow. Liu Xiaobo’s Rooster (酉) cycle lasted between the ages of 32 and 36. Evaluating the years between 1987 and 1991, we can determine whether metal really impeded his cosmic flow. Coincidentally, in 1989, Liu Xiaobo was charged with spreading messages to instigate counterrevolutionary behaviour, as a result, he was sent to one of China’s best known maximum security prisons. Just as his Rooster (酉) cycle ended, he was discharged from prison.
Liu Xiaobo has a textbook ‘Follow Offspring’ chart where people would come to his aid in good cycles. During bad cycles, there are possibilities for him to upset the ruling power, in Liu’s case, it is upsetting the Chinese government. In 2010, he is currently in the Goat (未) cycle and the Goat (未) presents him with a stronger wood alliance which is going with the flow of his birth system. This led him to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize and the support of people around the world for his release from prison. A typical “從兒格”, or Follow Offspring with strong support in the luck cycle creates harmony in his birth system.
Would Liu Xiaobo be released from prison? According to the luck cycle and the combination of the year of the Rabbit in 2011, the possibility of being discharged from prison would be considered quite high. A complete wood alliance in his birth system is the most auspicious formation. From the Four Pillars strength analysis diagram below, having his chart remain feeble in the birth system allows him to enjoy the benefits of the cosmic flow. By strengthening his system using metal and water, difficulties are bound to occur.
